INDONESIA AND THE POPULARITY OF GOOGLE ADSENSE

The popularity of Google Adsense as one of the  world's largest PPC business in internet is no way to be doubtful. Thousands or even millions of dollars have flowed from this advertising business filling almost all the famous sites in this world. However, do you know that Indonesia once became one of the country's largest contributors to the popularity of Google Adsense?
As a country in which internet connection experienced rapid growth in recent years, Indonesia was ranked first in contributing to Google Adsense keywords, namely in the years 2007 and 2008. This indicated that the curiosity and the involvement of Indonesian people towards this advertising business reached its peak in these two years.
However, over the last two years, the position was taken over by Pakistan. This shift may be because Indonesian community began pessimistic with Google Adsense since the coming of many international competitors, such as Chitika, Bidvertiser, as well as local competitors like AdsenseCamp and PPCIndo. In addition, the declining position could also be caused by the moving of many online Indonesian businessmen into other business models such as Paid to Review, Paid to Click, or Paid to Read E-mail due to their sharply decreasing income from Google Adsense.
The pessimistic of Indonesian society against Google Adsense was also due to the difficulty to be a partner in this advertising business. For new bloggers, Google Adsense business is one of their yearnings but because of the difficulty to be its members, many of them later on abandon this PPC business. Moreover, many existing Google Adsense partners from Indonesia were shocked and then became antipathy because their account were suddenly banned by Google without detailed explanations. This was a phenomenon of Google Adsense Business in Indonesia recently.

HACKING, THE FREAKY WAY OF INDONESIAN CYBER COMMUNITY IN SPREADING MESSAGES

Along with the development of internet access in Indonesia, Indonesian’s activities in cyberspace are getting increasing in diverse ways, including in spreading specific messages. One unique but very controversial way often applied by Indonesian “netter” (a call for who are involved in the Internet world) in facing a bad situation in the middle of the community is to display their messages at specific sites through hacking activities. Similarly, in responding the current big case involving a general in Indonesian Police, Commissaries General Susno Duadji, Indonesian hackers use their skill.
Case that struck the three-star police general, Susno Duadji, is getting increasingly complex. The netter’ supporting Susno Duadji made a surprise by showing an icon of resistance against the irregularities of law enforcement in Indonesia. According to them, whatever his motive, Susno Duadji has the right to speak and open many indications of irregularities in the body of Indonesian Police.
Once the netter found a proper poster of Susno Duadji, they then installed it on some specific sites. Until today, there are at least 60 sites that were hacked by them and the number could be growing. However, now most of the 60 sites already tried to repair and to protect their side so that the messages sent by the hackers, "Indonesian Hacker Dukung Susno Duadji Untuk Kebenaran. Mari Bersama Bpk. Susno Kita Berantas Mafia Hukum di Indonesia" (Indonesia Hackers Support Susno Duadji For The Truth. Come Together Mr. Susno We Fight Mafia Law in Indonesia) is no longer legible. According to a national newspaper (www.kompas.com), here are some sites that the netters have put their message:

INDONESIAN CULTURE STOLEN!

After a few forms of arts and cultures of Indonesia such as Angklung, Reog Ponorogo, Kuda Lumping, and Pendet Dance were claimed to belong to other countries, Indonesia is now facing cultural jolt as Bengawan Solo song has been hijacked and claimed by four Dutch citizens. The four people are claiming to be the creator of Bengawan Solo song and have registered it in their country. This obviously becomes a serious concern of Gesang, the original songwriter of the legendary “keroncong” song in Indonesia.

Related to the stealing of Bengawan Solo by the four Dutch people, the manager of Bengawan Solo song is currently negotiating with a number of Dutch songs publisher. In addition, the Government of Indonesia is also currently studying and investigating the claim of Bengawan Solo song that was originally created by Gesang Martohartono. The Government is ready to defend the work of this Indonesian legendary song. Moreover, Bengawan Solo has been listed in UNESCO as Indonesian made.

Gesang Martohartono, the legendary songwriter of Bengawan Solo, in fact currently is still receiving royalty payments for his song that is still played inside and outside Indonesia. The Indonesian Maestro of Keroncong who was born in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia on October 1, 1917 said that Bengawan Solo was created in 1940 when he was 23 years old. Bengawan Solo has been translated in at least 13 languages and also has its own popularity in Japan because it was once used in a certain movie in the country.

At his age now, Gesang is no longer productive to create more song but thanks to Bengawan Solo song, today he still enjoys royalties that this year reaches more than 34 million rupiahs. However, the claim of the four Dutch people towards Bengawan Solo is certainly not only affecting the amount of royalties that he will receive but also the spirit of his nationalism embedded behind his song.

KESURUPAN MASSAL (MASS TRANCE), A STRANGE PHENOMENON IN INDONESIA

Kesurupan is a phenomenon when a person is outside the control of his own thought and acts in a strange ways like yelling, talking alone, and crying loudly. Some people assume that kesurupan is caused by supernatural forces that penetrated into the soul of a person. In Indonesia, this incident happen very often, even in a mass way that involve dozens of people, mostly women.

Symptoms of kesurupan often occur when someone is in the wrong place and time. Usually kesurupan happen to a person who is too tired, in an empty mind, and less strong faith. This situation can easily be exploited by forces of the unseen, which usually can not be controlled. In general, people who are in kesurupan (trance) have a strange behavior with the characteristics as below:

- A sharp gaze, empty straight ahead.
- His voice turns into a flat without intonation.
-  Having ability to answer magical questions.
- His physical strength exceeds.
- At a certain level, people who are in kesurupan are able to do something unusual such as flying, lifting big and heavy material, and throwing people.
- Having bulging eyes.

Almost everyone who is in kesurupan can be recovered. The man capable to do the curing is called “Orang Pintar” that is dominated by religious leader.

Those who do not want to be in kesurupan, these steps will help prevent everyone fro that condition:
1. Do not allow yourself to be empty (daydream)
2. Avoid sacred places.
3. Do not have a habit of talking or yelling in a sacred place
4. Do not challenge nature (such as mountains, seas, forests, etc.). Do not brag.
5. Be close to God.

NIQAB, A LIFE PRINCIPLE OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD IN INDONESIA

In the middle of the world spotlight on the lives of Muslims in Indonesia, the phenomenon of niqab, the veil that cover almost all the face, in the largest Muslim populated country in the world, Indonesia, colored various media. The views and treatment of these niqab users increasingly diverse, some people support but not a few are against due to some reasons.

From the religious teachings of Islam, there are two Mullahs’ (leaders in Islam) opinions related to the wearing of niqab for Muslim women. Some of them claim that wearing such a kind of veil for Muslim women is an obligatory, while others claim that the rule is just optional and permissible, and not an obligation. Both opinions are based on the interpretation of strong and legal laws in the teaching of Islam.

Significantly, amid increasing the number of Muslim women who wear niqab in Indonesia, a lot of responses in the community, both from his fellow Muslims as well as society in general emerged. Once the wearing of niqab is often identified with high adherence to the religion, but  now it is regarded as a form of exclusivist since in some cases, women who wear niqab are less likely to socialize with people. They looked only focus on specific groups that share similar principles and less open to wide community.
Moreover, while some terrorists in Indonesia were caught and some of their female family wearing the niqab in daily life, attitudes toward Muslim women wearing niqab is gradually changed. Many people began misunderstand. Even when one of the terrorists caught recently wearing a niqab as a camouflage, much worse opinion towards them emerged. The niqab is no longer widely regarded as part of the principle of religious belief but as a form of hypocrisy. This is a phenomenon of the application of principles and beliefs that sometimes misunderstood by people from Indonesia caused only by a few elements.

GAMELAN, CAN THIS INDONESIAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT OF PRIDE SURVIVE IN WHERE IT COMES FROM?

Gamelan is a traditional musical instrument of Indonesia. It’s a blend of the sound of alloy gongs, kenong and the others. Soft music from this Javanese musical instrument reflects the harmony of Javanese life, greeting and soothing the soul. The word of gamelan itself comes from Javanese language, which means hitting / beating (gamel) , followed by a suffix that makes it a  noun. Gamelan are widely known and played on the island of Java, Madura, Bali, and Mataram in a variety of sizes, shapes, and ensembles.
Historically, Gamelan first appeared in the Hindu-Buddhist period in Indonesia. The description of this instrument can be found at the Borobudur temple which stood since the 8th century. Musical instruments such as bamboo flute, bells, kendhang in various sizes, lute, and other musical instruments can be seen in the relief at the largest Buddhist temple. However, relief of the instrument is said to be the origin of the gamelan.
Although this traditional musical instrument has been known in many countries, today in Indonesia, gamelan is already scarce. Only in a few special events such as weddings ceremony and art performances can this gamelan be enjoyed. Ironically, many kinds of gamelan are developed by students from abroad like from Australia, Dutch, Danish, and Japanese. There are only a few of Indonesian students who are interested to pursue this high-art-value musical instrument.
Currently, Gamelan in Indonesia adorns many museums and the hall of government offices but is very rarely played. One question that may arise is: Will Gamelan disappear in the country where it was born? This is a reflection that the Indonesian should really think about before this nation lost one of its very precious treasure: gamelan.

GOTONG ROYONG (MUTUAL COOPERATION), AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT FOR INDONESIAN TO MAINTAIN UNITY

If you want to know why Indonesian Nation that consists of various ethnic, religious, cultural, and language, can still maintain the integrity and unity, perhaps this is one answer. The Indonesian people, both government and society in general, understand that the unity of the nation can only be created if all the people respect each other, help each other, and look after each other. This has been implemented both in government’s rules, as well as in everyday life, one called Gotong Royong (mutual cooperation).

Gotong Royong is a tradition of doing things together. In Indonesia, it is used as the main issue in three political periods of Indoensian nation. In history of independence, it had been noted that Gotong Royong became an important element in the life of Indonesian. At the time of the government of President Sukarno, Gotong Royong is a "sacred word" that always been floated to him, even once in one of his speech, President Sukarno's stated that if Pancasila, the philosophy of Indonesia, squeezed into one principle, then it is principle would be Gotong Royong.
At the time of President Suharto, although not as strict at the time of Sukarno’s reign, Gotong Royong remained one of the important words. Various facts disclosed to support the view that Gotong Royong is the nature of the Indonesian nation. Gotong Royong is ranging from agricultural systems together, the festivity, building house, and all sorts of community activities.
Gotong Royong was also used by President Megawati Sukarnoputri who used these words to name his cabinet (2001-2004). Cabinet Gotong Royong was inaugurated in 2001 and the duties ended in 2004. She hoped that Gotong Royong Cabinet would able to build Indonesia together towards a common prosperity.
Unfortunately, Gotong Royong spirit now begins to erode due to entry of the culture of individualism and materialism. Even in urban areas, Gotong Royong is becoming obsolete.

ANACONDA IN INDONESIA?

If we look back a thriller movie entitled "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid" released in 2004 and used its setting in Borneo Island, Indonesian, we may ask two big questions: Is it true that there is Anaconda in Indonesia? and Is there really a rare orchid as anti-aging medicine in Indonesia? Those two questions arise and we must carefully pay attention to them even though that movie was purely fictional.
From several studies that have been done by experts, Anaconda generally live around the Amazon River, American Continent. That big snake is estimated to reach 33-meters long. Biggest snake have ever seen in Borneo are mostly Pythons whose length is about 5 to 8 meters. This snake is similar to but not Anaconda.
Meanwhile, due to geographical conditions and tropical climate, Indonesia has the world's biodiversity of orchids. The number reach about 6 thousand species of orchids, ranging from the largest (or Tiger Orchid Grammatophyllum Speciosum) to the smallest (Taeniophyllum, which have no leaves).Therefore, the hunt for rare orchids are reasonable if done in Indonesia, but can not be certain that these rare orchids can be exploited as anti-aging medicine.

In short, Indonesia is not inhabited by Anaconda snake but covered by thousands of orchids, including the rare Black Orchid, which is only in the area of Papua, West Irian.

INDONESIA, LIKE IN THE HELL

That was so many people complain about living in Indonesia today, especially in big cities. Various forest destructions have caused the temperature in this tropical country increasing. If the former Indonesian society is spoiled with the bushy of forests, the green of fields, and the shade of trees, such the environment now has become an expensive sight for some people of Indonesia
Global warming that has plagued the world has been felt by Indonesian community. Various preventive efforts to minimize the effects of global warming have been carried out by many parties, especially through optimization of forest conservation and rehabilitation.
However, the expansion of residential and industrial land in big cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and other cities remain grow, creating a special problem that until now has not been resolved properly. Although directly feeling the impact of global warming in daily life, urban society is not fully awake of the dangers of global warming. Habits such as littering, attitudes in driving, and other bad habits contribute to other pollution levels are still done and visible in various parts of the city.
This is a fact that happened in Indonesia last decades. The increasing of temperature is strongly felt by the majority of Indonesian people so now they aer familiar with the term, "uh, it’s hot as hell here."

WELCOME TO MOST HAUNTED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD ...INDONESIA!

If you believe the phenomenon behind the TV serial broadcasted long time ago, Friday The 13th, you will probably have more faith in the supernatural when you have to stay in Indonesia. In a country that was once extremely strong with a hint of animism and dynamism, mystical and supernatural things have become common belief among the people.
Indonesian society generally believes that there is another world of different dimensions to the human world, of course with its own inhabitants of the world. In Indonesia, unseen creatures that inhabit the world is often termed as gendruwo, kuntilanak, pocong, tuyul, setan, and other titles that indicate the kinds of unseen creatures, the inhabitants of another world.
Most Indonesian belief that the unseen creatures generally live in a humid and quiet environment as in an empty house, large trees, forests, mountains, rivers, and sacred places may be difficult to put in human’s logic. Nevertheless, thousands of stories and experiences of the appearance of these creatures have become a public secret that Indonesian people mostly still believe in those unseen creature, or you may say GHOST.
Just as the international community belief about the existence of UFOs, Aliens, and other life outside the Earth, the existence of the world and supernatural beings are still controversial in Indonesian community itself. However, when compared to people in developed countries, Indonesia people tend to still believe in some things that can not be explained with logic, including the unseen creatures.
In short, if you visit or live in Indonesia, mentally just prepare you for is not impossible that the unseen creatures will greet you in anyway they like. Welcome to the world of ghosts.., Indonesia.

IS INDONESIA REALLY A DANGEROUS COUNTRY?

If we see a glimpse of the description of the site's most famous agent of America, the CIA, Indonesia is considered as a dangerous country. Really?  Dangerous category here is taken from the conclusions in the field of health stating that the level of risk of transmitting diseases carried by mosquitoes in the country with more than 220 people is high. This issue of course raises some reactions and concerns. However, is Indonesia as dangerous as the CIA states? 
Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia had mostly packed with topical anti-mosquito repellents due to their worrying about the mosquitoes attack. Malaria mosquitos attacks occur in the tropics are considered to be a pretext threat to the tourists. However, this last one a few years, the spread of malaria and mosquito breeding may actually have been anticipated by the Government with preventive measures that involved all elements of the society. 
Of all cases that have been recorded by Department of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the largest percentage of malaria incidents is in the area of Papua, West Irian. These incidents are caused by several things, both in terms of natural communities and their habits. 
According to some health experts, malaria transmission often occurs in the newly occupied areas, especially in tropical forests. New residential mosquito nests also resulted in increasing outbreaks of malaria while the migrants often have no knowledge about how to prevent this transmission of malaria, and they are also not immune to it forming. In addition, climate change is also associated with increased cases of malaria.
This is”homework" for the Indonesian and people of the world that Indonesia is very broad with islands separated so that the condition of the environment should not be equated with other environments. In essence, cases of malaria that occurred in Papua do not reflect that Indonesia so dangerous as the CIA states.
