As one of the Independence Proclamator as well as the first President of the republic of Indonesia , Sukarno, or known also as Bung Karno, is an important figure in the history of the Indonesian state. Bung Karno embrace the ideology of development 'stand on own feet'. Bung Karno was born in Blitar, East Java , June 6, 1901. He once boldly taunted the United States and other capitalist countries: "Go to hell with your aid."
After a long struggle, Bung Karno along with Bung Hatta proclaimed Indonesia 's independence on August 17, 1945. Previously, he also managed to formulate a principle which later became the basis of Pancasila (Indonesian ideology). He tried to unite Indonesian archipelago. In fact, he tried to gather the nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America with the Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955 which later developed into the Non-Aligned Movement. He invited emerging states (newly independent) to be united.
Unfortunately, rebellion of G-30-S/PKI (Indonesian Communist Party) resulted in a very great political crisis. He did not want to liquidate the PKI, which was accused by students and the military as a mastermind of some army general's cruelty killer. So on March 11, 1966 he issued a warrant to General Soeharto to control the situation, which was then known as Supersemar. But, this was the beginning of his falling down. His falling down from political position was also caused by his views. As someone who had a firm principle, Bung Karno was often regarded as a controversial figure. So, no wonder if he had many opponents.
